Dead and Dying Trees

Something I like to do when I can is park my Citibike away from where I live and walk home, taking pictures along the way.

Something I noticed this evening is that these two trees, at the St. Mark's Place and Avenue A entrance to Tompkins Square Park, are either dead or dying. The one on the left is dead, and the one on the right has a lot of dead branches, and is dying.

Dead and dying trees.

It's not so surprising, considering the number of rat holes in that area. They've probably destroyed the roots, and poisoned the soil with their excretions.

Rats are the unwelcome residents of the East Village!
