Something I noticed this evening is that these two trees, at the St. Mark's Place and Avenue A entrance to Tompkins Square Park, are either dead or dying. The one on the left is dead, and the one on the right has a lot of dead branches, and is dying.

It's not so surprising, considering the number of rat holes in that area. They've probably destroyed the roots, and poisoned the soil with their excretions.
Rats are the unwelcome residents of the East Village!
