Underdrawing

If you took art classes past the 5th grade, something you learned was to build your piece slowly. Lay down one level, put it aside, come back to it later, add to it gradually, until it's complete.

East Village artists who work in the medium of vertical surfaces and spray paint are no different, as you can see from the construction wall on Avenue A, where the COOOOOOOOOOOL scaffolding recently came down:

Sketching the outlines first.

This artist probably chose the lighter color green based on the dark green the city mandates for construction walls.
