The Mosaic Trail

Of all the public works of art in the East Village, among the more well-known are the mosaics of Jim Power, the Mosaic Man.

Collectively, they make up the Mosaic Trail, which is mainly on St. Mark's Place, although there are others along Avenue A and a few other locations. This one is at the corner of First Avenue and St. Mark's Place:

There is some question as to whether these poles will survive the rebuilding of Astor Place. Unfortunately, this issue is complicated by the artist himself destroying some of the mosaics!

East Villagers love these mosaics, but sometimes it's a love that destroys. Tough love, I think they call it!
